The vikings were not just raiders, but settlers and craftsmen, farmers and blacksmiths. Where ever the longships landed the smaller Knorr boats laden with families and cattle were sure to follow. Far off lands such as Iceland and Green land were colonized. Nearer to home the Vikings settled extensively in the isles of Scotland.
Where land was empty they simply moved in. Where it was not, including the lands of the Saxons, they still found land to settle alongside their Saxon neighbours, helping to form many of the towns and villages in the areas of the Danelaw.

The Vikings believes heavily in Living History, and at our shows there will always be a collection of tents surrounded by a crowd of villagers and crafter's, who are in turn surrounded by an even greater crowd of the general public.
There are crafter's from all spheres of Dark Age life, from jewelers and woodworkers down to humble housewives making food and weaving cloth.
The society has a large pool of skilled and knowledgeable crafter's who can help advise and train you in dark Age crafts.
Additionally, if you hang around the village you may get caught up in village disputes and court cases, or you may even the problems and fears of the local Lord as he tries to assemble a coalition out of the local Eorls to face Viking invaders marching on his towns and villages.
The society provides actors for these roles, so if you have a flair for amateur dramatics you might find a place in the family feuds.
We are always looking out for new villagers, so if you are interested in joining, or wish to find out more, you can contact us.
